A former Edmonton daycare worker is wanted on a charge of sexual assault involving a young girl who attended Willowbrae Academy Mill Creek, where he worked.Alberta court records show there is a warrant for the arrest of Dilpreet Singh Chawla, 32, on a sexual assault charge for an incident that is alleged to have occurred sometime between January and May. Chawla is also wanted on one count of sexual contact and one count of sexual counsel. Authorities issued the warrant on July 16, according to court documents.

Correspondence from an Edmonton police detective to a parent of a child at the daycare obtained by CBC News indicates Chawla left Canada for India before he could be interviewed by police. CBC News has not confirmed this information with Edmonton police, which declined comment, saying the case was before the courts. The Canada Border Services Agency had not returned a request for comment as of Friday afternoon. The provincial government’s early learning and child care office has also investigated the allegations.According to the office’s Aug. 19 incident report, initial allegations of “an inappropriate interaction between the staff member and the child in the shed in the program’s outdoor play space” were reported by the daycare to the province on June 18. Willowbrae then placed Chawla on leave. The incident report – which was shared on Aug. 22 with parents of children attending the daycare – says staff have now been instructed to minimize time spent with children in areas without a camera and to be mindful of time spent with children one-on-one. Children are no longer allowed in the shed — which is now locked — and “a camera has been installed facing the shed,” the report says.<SNIP> LINK
